A pattern in the HyperCross literature is that 4D is quite mysterious and only a few talented and gifted autodidacts, outside of the cloistered halls, have any knack for seeing in higher dimensions.

Hence the trope of a layperson, usually female, who maybe has a near death experience or just has visions (picture Ada) who forms a partnership with an establishment senex (picture Babbage) who is able to guide her towards the more rigorous incantations of the 4D cult inner circle (and 4D is just the beginning; the ladder keeps going up to 5D, 6D and so on! Enter group theory, combinatorics, and egads, hypersnakes!).

In contrast, the 4D of Synergetics is what you can’t unsee once you see the tetrahedron as the Paradigm Box (the meaning of “box” morphs to all triangular faces, and only four of them at that). “Oh so THAT’S what people mean by 4D?”. No actually, mostly they don’t. Most people have never heard of Synergetics let alone read any, so don’t bet your precious dollars on someone saying “4D” a lot being conversant with the Bucky stuff.

If Pandora’s 36 was directly related to 36 quarks then we might consider the internal 432 curves as the gluonic sub-nuclear strong force that holds quarks tightly bound. Ha, if it were only that simple.

If were to follow B Fullers ideas, then to find the 18 anti-quarks, we turn your Pandora inside-out, --as Fuller does with a glove--. If were to turn it inside-out, not sure what would happen to the 432 internal curved lines.

I do accept the inside-out “as with a glove” characterization. Tetrahedra do turn inside out, when an apex (any apex) plunges through the opposite base (any base).

But someone new to Synergetics casually reading the above might get the wrong impression that Synergetics was endeavoring to map itself to CERN particle physics and the standard model vs elaborating from its own idea of “particles” namely BEAST. He does talk about the A “particle” and how it lasts longer than the B, as an energy investment, but then MITEs are A+ A- B- or B+ A+ A- so a mixture of both, and Couplers are a permutation to an even higher number (I forget the number).

His quantum modules don’t have to be entangled with anyone else’s GUT or TOE. It’s not a requirement that Synergetics be a part of what I call “that old time California religion” that centers around particle physics being some doorway to God (aka “higher consciousness”) in some exclusive “you need a priest who knows eigenvectors” kind of way. In my HyperCross Dogmatics essay (search term?) I do some anthropological analysis of how in the Anglosphere it’s authorized to “get spiritual” if by that one means citing Edwin Abbot’s Flatland and believing in “interdimensional beings from outer space”. You can even testify before Congress with beliefs like that, and it makes for fun television. But a lot of that stuff is premised on buying into the Anglosphere in the first place e.g. buying the “space is 3D”.

I’ve never seen Rybo or Jim trying to champion what appears to be Fuller’s lost cause: keeping his 4D flag waving proudly above the fray, not getting sucked in to either side of the Hilbert Space vs Einstein Space divergence (each has a respective meaning for 4D). In picking up that 4D banner and using Wittgenstein language game type analysis mixed with Pythonic namespace talk, I think I’m elucidating what Fuller meant by “prefrequency 4D” in contrast to time/space/energy which we might call 4D+ (more than just the irreducible containment, out to the holodeck as a whole if you wanna put it that way).

Synergetics is non-reductionist meaning it doesn’t use the uber-small to “explain” the uber-big in the sense of the former “determining” the latter i.e. “if we only get the standard model 100% correct we’ll be able to make a killing in the stock market” (snicker). What other bridges are you trying to sell me, right?

I agree that Cuba needs to stay a focus. Our Cuban community here in Portland remains in solidarity with the homeland.

My plans have centered around international student exchange summer jobs programs, with Ben & Jerry’s a focus (making and delivering ice cream as a grad school level activity; meet the peeps).

We can do this in the old XYZ way with XYZ numbers, or we can apply the Synergetics Constant S3 and ratio the ball to its domain of volume 6. I’m of course referring to what Bucky calls “the spheric”, the RD.

We’ll get the same answer, the same ratio. That’s a nice bridge from the XYZ volumes to the IVM volumes.

The “IcosaWithin” is not named that in the published volumes. That’s a quirky name given it by me n Koski. It’s within the Octahedron of volume 4.

Now one could say the wooden spheres are not purely solid and that would be correct. Physical substances are permeable and on zoom-in have micro-structure.

In our imaginations, we believe we have a true continuum (or call it a “manifold”), true impermeability.

I’m not sure that idea comes from qualia, as the philosophically trained-like to say (“qualia” is right up there with “quantum” for them). When you close your eyes and imagine a perfect circle, to how many digits of pi is it perfect. You say “all the way”. You’re having a mystical experience we’re to presume. Spheres: same thing. They’re approximations in Synergetics and have to do with inter-distances, relationships.

The IVM does not have to be modeled with “solid” balls. It can be as ghostly as the XYZ, i.e. not there at all except as an imaginary set of grid lines. It’s all special case, how you wanna project it, for your specific application.

I haven’t included the S module in the table but we’ve already seen exactly where it fits in, and how phi-scaled S modules provide additive relationships equalling each of the above polys in volume (picture pouring sand).

When it comes to Cascadian Synergetics as shared through Wanderers and others, I’m confidant all of this basic information will remain intact. We have the slides, the posters, the videos, and now we’re building up the 3D printing side of our business.

No, the book does not declare the USA to be extinct. Buckminster Fuller, a Medal of Freedom recipient, uses strong language in Grunch of Giants (1983) to critique the U.S. economy and its geopolitical risks, but he frames extinction as a potential future threat rather than a current reality.

On page 55 of ’Grunch of Giants’ I found this sentence: “There is nothing in the words or spirit of the U.S. Declaration of Independence or U.S. Constitution which states or suggests the U.S.A. is committed exclusively to the success of the rich. The Grunch is still trying to use the corpse of Uncle Sam to prop up its own legitimacy, no surprise there. It’s just the ruse has become more and more hollow over time.

Per my Graph Theory deck, we’re able to network Bucky into a context through Applewhite, Kenner, and through me into Wittgenstein and Rorty coming from 1970s Princeton philo. Applewhite told me he liked the Wittgenstein angle I was hammering on. Language games. Meaning arising only in namespaces.

The aesthetic of abandoned places comes under the heading of Gothic and the sublime, which suggests my purpose in including this branch in my timeline. A lot of future travelogues will feature the ruins we are actively creating today as a species, as we rampage through our inventory and destroy it wholesale. We also connect to the literature of monsters and automatons (robots, bots) through this literature.

Kenner, author of The Pound Era, which includes Bucky, who met Pound (important story), was aware that Fuller was getting wired into a literary lineage, as he was helping to do, but so were many others, such as the est subculture in California, a topic taken up in Alec’s bio. Coming from Princeton philosophy and Kaufmann in particular, when it came to est awareness, I was in position in the early 1980s to see Bucky’s rise in popularity among the “est trained”.

Where we find the est Training in popular culture is in such TV series as The Americans, a show premised on longstanding Russophobia and thereby making sense of a Washington DC Cold War culture. This Made for TV melodrama overlaps the Applewhite world, which also has Gothic elements, especially if we make a radical move (one few have made) vectoring Gothic into Noir as a movie genre, as Noir is where the Cold War world of international spying evolves.

Whereas The Americans harped on Russophobia, Fuller himself was not anti Russian in Critical Path, and yet he also seems weirdly pro CIA in places in Grunch of Giants, which overall is a critique of a crumbling form of capitalism (nation-state based). The resolution of this paradox is in the World Game corpus, wherein we find Bucky coaching his grad students to work with all the embassies and intelligence agencies to feed the databases, as World Game was all about computing with big data (before “big data” became a thing). World Game’s highest priority: electrical grid integration, and integration more generally, at the infrastructure level (optical fiber, satellites, and so on). The Eurasians and the Americans had a point of contact they could leverage: the Bering Strait.

In sum, we’re looking at ways to visit Synergetics through different portals in the existing literature, with Margaret Fuller and Transcendentalism offering a most obvious route, and one that Fuller himself had encouraged, such as by dedicating Grunch of Giants to Margaret and to the cause of women gaining power more generally (we saw that commitment up close in the est training literature -- per Fuller, the USA’s inability to pass an ERA was an early sign of what was to come: its demise by the time of Reagan, with the Grunch stepping in, and the coverup).

At this point in the 1980s, with Fuller’s reputation as a subversive established, per the Grunch of Giants dust cover (blurb by Applewhite), we turn to Patricia Ravasio’s The Girl from Spaceship Earth: A True Story, wherein Fuller gives her those interviews wherein he speaks with confidence that his cohort will be actively working to suppress Synergetics. Of course they will, they have a lot of eggs in a lot of baskets that a post-Malthusian revolution (a design science revolution) might break. LAWCAP was vulnerable. The open source revolution, with the advancement of copyleft and challenges to intellectual property games, marked the beginning of a great unraveling.

By now, there’s not much resistance left to the spread of the Fuller corpus within academia, as we’re seeing with Synergetics University and with Cascadian Synergetics more generally. The local economy, already tech savvy (Silicon Forest) is waking up to the fact that Cascadia has an edge, an advantage, in already hosting a dome home industry. My video channel fills in with more details, as we have already discussed on this listserv.

Cascadian Pragmatism looks at the very pragmatic / logistics concerns in Supermarket and Casino Maths (as we call them in our Silicon Forest Digital Mathematics curriculum) starting with Blake versus Newton and mono-metallic fixed-ratio currency management, vs bi-metallism (gold and silver genuinely decoupled) and subsequent innovations, up through the crypto-currencies of today, and their role in language games, such as tokenizing the food cart world, in preparation for the spread of nomadic “glamping” as a way of prototyping livingry, meaning new lifestyles.

I realize harnessing my slides to a shared Google drive makes it harder for some accounts to access the goodies. Most of us have at least a dummy account, free, for the purpose of accessing whatever goodies we’re allowed, in exchange for whatever data Google harvests, we always hope with due regard for privacy. But low trust on that question is precisely why some of you will have eschewed Google services.

But trust issues surround any service. As geeks, we’re professionally paranoid, right?

So far, I’m happy to use Google’s services, which include hosting my most important blogs, or “Quaker journals” as I sometimes think of them (why comments are turned off; more like a log than a place to have conversations).

I also use Google colab quite a bit, a Jupyter Notebook clone. I talk about Jupyter Notebooks in the video.

I’m going to link to some of those aforementioned slide decks right here, in case you feel like taking up the work of presenting them, perhaps from behind a paywall (such as in conference venues), that’s your business.

I’m providing read-only access and sometimes I make changes, as I’m going to talk about in this video.

In general with my School of Tomorrow repo on Github, where a lot of the background knowledge is kept, you might wanna clone it locally and then keep that particular clone “behind glass” so you have no problems pulling down upgrades (git pull) I might keep making.

You can always fork or branch starting from another hands-on copy, which may in turn quickly become backwards incompatible with version — which is not a problem.

Take it in your own direction why not, and keep a clone up to date.

My undergraduate thesis, Richard Rorty advising, was on the later philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein, which Rorty saw feeding in to his brand of Pragmatism under the heading of “non-representationalism” (a manifestation of “the Linguistic Turn” in philosophy — which Rorty helped popularize).

Here we are in March of 2026 and Google has a lot more information on Quadray Coordinates than the Oxford English Dictionary so far. The OED needs to keep esoteric invented words at bay, until they have some track record and proven utility in the wider world of English speakers.

The problem: whether Synergetics (Macmillan, NY), followed by Synergetics 2, is a work in the English language or not is hardly a simple question, given the Remoteness of the Synergetics Vocabulary (one of the numbered sections: 250.30) and the weird spin it puts on a lot of pre-existing words, never mind the few neologisms (“tensegrity” for example).

For example, “isotropic” “vector” and “matrix” are not neologisms, but the idea that there might be something called an “isotropic vector matrix” (IVM) doesn’t sound like an Englishman’s daydream (maybe nightmare?), even when it’s frequency-modulated (FM).

Is this even the King’s English? Obviously not.

On the other hand, English borrows words all the time, and Google gives the Latin etymology of “quadrays” under Prefix Breakdown.

I look forward to the day when I don’t have to add “quadrays” to my local dictionary of technical words and instead might rely on more global dictionaries to inventory same.
